Re: Multiple transformer secondary taps You can have up to six breakers constitute, as a set, the transformer's secondary protection. You have two. Their total ratings can't exceed the limits for secondary protection. In your case, the rated secondary current is 1805 amps, and the limit for over current protection is 125% of that (i.e., 2256 amps).

WhatsApp: +86 18221755073I believe that NEC Article 450.3 Overcurrent Protection (and Table 450.3) directly determines the secondary side breaker sizing (and bus sizing). For example, if I have a 2500kVA, 13.8-0.48kV Transformer, the rated secondary side current is 3007A. As per Table 450.3, for 480V secondary (<1000V), the breaker maximum rating or setting shall be ...

WhatsApp: +86 18221755073I currently have a set of drawings that is showing the Primary OCPD being sized at 90 amps and the Secondary at 200 amps. It looks like the designer sized these breakers and conductors to the load it will be serving rather than the size of the transformer. Is the designer ok by doing this, or should it be done at 125 amps and 300 amps.

WhatsApp: +86 18221755073I've used one transformer with a breaker about half FLA without difficulty; I believe this was a 30 KVA unit. The secondary load will have only a second order effect on inrush; what has a much bigger effect is the impedance of the primary circuit, any residual core flux and the timing of the switch transition.

WhatsApp: +86 18221755073Would a secondary breaker terminiating in a MLO panel or switchboard with 6 breakers who's ratings did not exceed the ampacity of the secondary conductors adequately protect the secondary conductors? WhatsApp: +86 18221755073The protection of the secondary conductor only at its load end but not its line side would not protect the conductor to its ampacity if a short were upstream of the load side terminating breaker, and if it were not for the primary side breaker / counter electromagnetic force resistance between primary and secondary.
WhatsApp: +86 18221755073The transformer secondary current rating is 3007A so using 125% of that per table 450.3(A) gives secondary main breaker size of 3758A which rounds up to 4000A. I suppose you could also round down to 3500A which would also in turn reduce cables to (10) sets of 500MCM. I guess the choice of 3500A vs 4000A is depended on actual load requirements.
